A scientific forum focused on emerging challenges, novel therapeutic approaches, and future directions in infectious diseases affecting immunocompromised populations.

The programme will cover fungal, bacterial and viral infections, as well as the role of the microbiota and emerging immunotherapy strategies, aiming to improve the diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of this vulnerable patient population.

Pedro Puerta

Specialist physician

Pedro Puerta Alcalde, specialist in Internal Medicine, trained at Bellvitge University Hospital. He obtained his PhD in 2020 from the University of Barcelona. He worked as an infectious disease specialist at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona between 2017 and 2024. He is currently co-head of the Immunocompromised Patients Section at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona. Member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Group of Medical Mycology (SEIMC). Expert in fungal infections and multidrug-resistant organisms.

Head of the Infectious Diseases Service

Roger Paredes, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Infectious Diseases Service at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, Head of the Microbial Genomics Group at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, Badalona, Spain.

Roger Paredes obtained an MD, PhD degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He specialised in HIV resistance at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School. His team has demonstrated the clinical utility of HIV-1 deep sequencing in both high- and low-income countries.
