During the COVID-19 epidemic, he led the first study that demonstrated the usefulness of screening with antigen tests to be able to carry out massive cultural events during the concerts of Love of Lesbian and the Sala Apolo in Barcelona, ​​events that had a great impact worldwide. and that their results were published in the prestigious journals Lancet ID and Annals of Internal Medicine.

Eugènia Negredo completed the specialty of Internal Medicine at the Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, in 1998. She received her Ph.D. in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 2002. Since 1999, Dr. Negredo works as a physician in the HIV Unit of Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona, and she leads the research group focused on the epidemiology, pathogenesis and treatment of different HIV- and antiretroviral-related complications. She is also Associate Professor of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat de Vic.

José-Ramon Santos MD, PhD, is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases since 2005. He has focused most of his work on the study of HIV resistance to antiretrovirals and simplification strategies. He has co-authored multiple students nationally and internationally and has published in recognized journals (eg Clinical Infectious Diseases, PlosOne, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy). Since the appearance of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, it has also been involved in research and direct care of patients hospitalized for SARS CoV-2. In this sense, it has been achieved in some of the main studies carried out with (Beigel et al. N Engl J Med 2020 November 5th; 383 (19): 1813-182, Beigel et al. N Engl J Med 2020 May 225;383(19):1813-1826, Kalil et al. N English J Med 2020).

He is currently collaborating with groups studying reinfections by SARS-CoV-2 and long-COVID. Josep M Llibre, MD, PhD, received his MD in the Universitat de Barcelona, and obtained his specialty in Internal Medicine and his PhD in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is a member of the panel of Antiretroviral treatment guidelines at the GeSIDA group (AIDS group of the SEIMC Spanish society), and an expert advisor of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) on antiretroviral treatment and hepatitis C (PADEICS). He started caring for patients with HIV/AIDS at the beginning of the epidemic in Spain in 1987. His main areas of interest in HIV Medicine include the clinical implications of HIV-1 resistance, the analysis of safety and efficacy in HIV-1 antiretroviral treatment clinical trials (both in naïve and pre-treated patients), with a special interest in drug efficacy and pharmacoeconomics, and hepatitis C co-infection. He has published widely in journals and book chapters, as well as HIV/AIDS medical webs, on clinical aspects of HIV-1 treatment and care, HIV-1 resistance, clinical reviews, positioning papers, treatment intensification and simplification strategies, and participated in many pivotal clinical trials. He has also published in basic science research journals. He collaborates as an editor and/or peer-reviewing with many top international medical journals. Roger Paredes, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Infectious Diseases Service at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, Head of the Microbial Genomics Group at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, Badalona, Spain.

Roger Paredes obtained an MD, PhD degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He specialised in HIV resistance at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School. His team has demonstrated the clinical utility of HIV-1 deep sequencing in both high- and low-income countries.

Dr. Silvia Roure develops her medical specialty in the field of International Health and Tropical Medicine. She is the Director of the Programa de Salut Internacional de la Metropolitana Nord, linked to the Clinical Directorate of Infectious Diseases, and to the Infectious Diseases Service of the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol University and its Research Foundation, Fundación Lluita contra les Infeccions. In recent years, she has focused on research into imported infections that affect the immigrant population, and more specifically on schistosomiasis and tuberculosis. She is a member of the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and the European network for Tropical Medicine and Travel Health. Currently, Dr. Roure combines her clinical and research activity with teaching, both in undergraduate medical training at the UAB and at the University of Vic/Manresa as a clinical associate, as well as in specialized training in International Health, teaching classes in various master’s degrees and academic courses.
