Matteo Cesari is a medical doctor specialized in geriatrics, currently working as a Scientist in Geriatrics and Gerontology at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva.
He is a Professor of Geriatrics at the University of Milan (currently on leave), where he also directed the Geriatric Fellowship Program. Prior to joining WHO, he held academic and research positions at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Wake Forest University (USA), the University of Florida-Institute on Aging, and the University of Toulouse (France).
His research focuses on geriatric syndromes, particularly frailty, and the prevention of functional decline in older adults. He has led and participated in projects funded by major national and international institutions, including the European Commission, the US National Institute on Aging, and various European research foundations.
Dr. Cesari has authored over 650 peer-reviewed publications and has served as Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor for several scientific journals. He has also coordinated task forces and working groups for leading scientific societies in geriatrics.
