Specialist in Internal Medicine, holds a Master’s Degree in Infection in Immunocompromised Patients, and earned a PhD in Medicine with Outstanding Honors from the Complutense University of Madrid. Since March 2024, he has served as a Principal Investigator at the Research Institute of the University Hospital 12 de Octubre (i+12), while also providing clinical care in its Infectious Diseases Unit. He has completed training stays at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, Toronto General Hospital, and the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois in Lausanne. His research focuses on infections in solid organ transplant recipients and other non‑HIV immunocompromised patients, the development and validation of immune‑monitoring strategies, and host–pathogen interactions. He is the author or co‑author of 350 scientific publications and has an h‑index of 47. Between 2017 and 2021, he chaired the Study Group on Infection in Transplantation and the Immunocompromised Host (GESITRA‑IC) of the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. His awards include the 2014 “Young Internist of the Year” from the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine, the 2017 Young Investigator Award for Research from ESCMID, and the 2021 Young Investigator Award from the International Immunocompromised Host Society.
