Dr. Joana Vidal Barrull earned her Medical Degree from the University of Barcelona in 2009 and completed her residency in Medical Oncology at Hospital del Mar between 2010 and 2015.
She currently works as a medical oncologist specializing in colorectal cancer at the Oncology Department of Hospital del Mar, where she also serves as co-director of the Colorectal Cancer Functional Unit.
Her main research focus is liquid biopsy, a field in which she has published several studies in high-impact (Q1) scientific journals. As part of her specialization, she completed a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York in 2018–2019. In 2023, she defended her PhD thesis on the clinical implementation of liquid biopsy in colorectal cancer.
She is currently a member of the Colorectal Cancer Precision Medicine Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.
