Inmunoterapia y Hemopatías 2025. New strategies in the treatment of multiple myeloma

JM Sancho completed his MD at the University of Navarra in 1992, and a residency in Haematology at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona. Dr Sancho focused his research in lymphoproliferative disorders, achieving a PhD from the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona. He is specialist in Hematology-Hemotherapy, Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, Badalona. Dr.Sancho is coordinator of the Clinical Hematology Department of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and works in the Deparment of Haematology at the Germans Trias I Pujol University Hospital in Badalona, Spain. Also, he is Principal Investigator at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute in the grup of Lymphoid Neoplasms. He will contribute to the data base elaboration and will supervise clinical aspects of the project. He is author or co-author of articles and books’ chapters about lymphomas, ALL and stem cell transplantation. Dr. Sancho is the principal investigator in many phases I to IV clinical trials on lymphoproliferative disorders. He is member of the Spanish Society of Haematology (SEHH) and Spanish Lymphoma Group (GELTAMO).

Specialist Physician in Hematology and Hemotherapy. Attending Physician in the Hematology Service at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. Coordinator of the CAR-T Program. PhD in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Postdoctoral Researcher in the Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Group.

He completed training in haematology at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. His doctoral thesis was awarded the Extraordinary Prize of the University of Barcelona (2012). He has been a researcher at the Amyloidosis Center in Pavia, the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, as well as at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York for 18 months, working on PUT-T cells for the treatment of multiple myeloma. He is currently a consultant at the Haematology Service of the Hospital Clinic, leader of the IDIBAPS research group and Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. He is actively involved in clinical trials for multiple myeloma and macroglobulinemia.

Dr. Laura Rosiñol graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 1996. She completed her training as a specialist in Hematology and Hemotherapy at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and obtained a doctorate from the University of Barcelona for her work in genetics molecular in smoldering myeloma. She has been part of the Hematology Service of the Hospital Clínic since 2006 and is currently the Head of the Myeloma and Amyloidosis Unit. Her professional career has focused on the clinical research of monoclonal gammopathies. In fact, she participates actively in phase I, II and III clinical trials of multiple mieloma as principal investigator and has published more than 200 articles in the field, including original articles, editorials and revisions with 16.518 citations and H-index of 57.  She is a member of the PETHEMA-GEM group, the International Myeloma Working Group and the International Myeloma Society.

Anna Sureda, (MD, PhD) is nowadays the Head of the Clinical Hematology Department of Institut Català d’Oncologia – Hospitalet, Barcelona.

She had previously been a Senior Consultant in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona (from January 1991 to December 2010) and a Senior Consultant focused on lymphomas and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) at Addenbrookes–Cambridge University Hospital, UK (December 2010 – December 2012).

Anna Sureda has focused her career on clinical investigations into the treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma patients evaluating novel therapies such as immunotherapy combined with stem-cell transplantation.

Anna Sureda was appointed Chairperson of the Lymphoma Working Party (LWP) of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) from March 2004 to March 2010 and Secretary of the same organization from March 2010 to March 2016. She was elected co-chair of the Lymphoma Committee of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) and has served the organization in this position from February 2015 to February 2019.

She was subsequently appointed as member of a large non-US Transplant Center in the Advisory Committee of the CIBMTR (from February 2019).

Anna Sureda is President of the Spanish Society of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (GETH-TC) and, from March 2022, President of the EBMT.

Anna Sureda is  a regular reviewer of several peer reviewed journals (Blood, Annals of Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, The Hematology Journal, The European Journal of Hematology y Annals of Hematology) and has co-authored more than 400 manuscripts.
