This activity is aimed at specialists in infectious diseases, internal medicine, intensive care units, microbiology, specialized nurses, and researchers. It will also be of great interest to healthcare professionals working in emergency units, as well as hospital pharmacists in large acute care facilities involved in antibiotic prescription and antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Information

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) infections pose a significant threat to global public health. MDR pathogens are resistant to multiple antimicrobial classes, while XDR bacteria show resistance to nearly all available treatments, severely limiting therapeutic options. These infections lead to higher morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs, particularly in hospital settings and immunocompromised patients. Addressing this challenge requires a multifaceted approach, including antimicrobial stewardship, infection control measures, rapid diagnostics, and the development of novel therapeutics to combat emerging resistance.
The fourth edition of this workshop will focus on critical challenges in infectious disease management, incorporating insights from previous editions to refine its approach. In this edition, we will address key topics such as the impact of climate change on antimicrobial resistance, the role of the microbiota in infectious diseases and immune response, innovative strategies to optimize the treatment of severe infections, and advances in the development and evaluation of new antimicrobials.
